Find out more about Beyond Mythologies by watching our video:
The Center for Global Studies and Engagement (CGSE) at Ferris State University is partnering with faculty and staff across campus and Kendall College of Art and Design to promote an annual international theme into the classroom and beyond. The goal is to integrate curricular learning to co-curricular experiences to raise global perspectives.
The international theme for this coming academic year is “BEYOND: Mythologies“. BEYOND: Mythologies will focus on the myths found throughout the world and how they influence the modern globalized world. By myths, we mean the narratives that express collective experiences interpreted by groups, structuring our understanding of the world, transcending time and space. The goal of the BEYOND events and annual theme is to open the minds and curiosity of students and community members alike to global cultures. One of the core themes behind the Beyond initiative is to challenge students and community members alike to make the connection between the self and the larger experience of humanity through reflection and experiential learning for a transformational learning experience.
Over the summer a group comprising of faculty and staff have begun the program development for Beyond: Mythologies. This year 42 faculty members have agreed to integrate the theme of Global Mythologies into their curriculum. This fall Beyond will host an international cooking class and an international movie night. One of the most exciting aspects to this project is that we are taking submissions for an anthology of mythologies that will combine short essays from students, staff and faculty. We aim to publish the anthology in 2014.Thinking forward to the spring semester The Center for Global Studies and Engagement hopes to bring in transformational International Education speakers that will embrace the campus and community with diverse perspectives on global mythologies.
